The unsung heroes of our healthcare system

Last week, SESLHD celebrated International Cleaners Day in acknowledgement of the vital work of our Environmental Support Services staff. Staff across the District gathered together and shared an amazing array of multicultural dishes to be enjoyed at the events. From the Philippines to Greece, every meal celebrated their hard work and services to the healthcare system.  

Environmental Support Services staff play a crucial role in maintaining hygiene, safety, in our hospital and public spaces, yet their contributions often go unnoticed. 

“Our Environmental Support Services staff keep the hospital environment clean and safe for all staff, patients and visitors to our sites. They play a pivotal part in the patient journey," said Katy Martin, Senior Corporate Support Services Operations Manager (Northern). 

Ultimately, International Cleaners Day celebrates the unsung heroes whose daily efforts create healthier, more pleasant spaces for all. It is a tribute to their commitment, resilience, and indispensable role in society. We thank you for all your hard work – our hospitals would not function without you.
